Meridian Star, September 11, 1962 Northeast Set for Saturday Night Opener The Northeast Trojans open their 1962 season Saturday night by taking on the Southeast Lauderdale Tigers on the home field. Coach Jack Holloway commented that Northeast has most of its regulars back and he expects a much better season than last year. The Trojans plan to run a two group offense and defense with the following lineup: Bobby McElroy (150) and Frank Covington (152) ends; Norman Nelson (157) and Robert White (167) tackles; Harry Dennis (165) and Jimmy Miler (160) guards; Walter Hamm (182) Center; Joe Miller (130) QB; Tim Gibson (150) and Roy Stafford (155) halfbacks and Bob Goldsby (170) at fullback. The second group is made up of David Wright (157) and Jim Gibson (150) ends; John Hicks (180) and Larry Swain (170) tackles; Carrol White (135) and Ricky Crosby (168) guards; Ronnie Null (170) center; with Leonard Cobb (128) QB; Don Goldsby (148) and Ronnie Jones (125) HB; with David Gerth (150) FB. Buster Jellanc (170), first string tackle and Mark Birdson (168), end with be sidelined for the opening game because of injuries. Both players were probable starters. The first is that Jack Holloway’s Trojans that night play their first ever home game when they take on the Southeast Lauderdale Tigers at 8 p.m. Reason No. 2 is that Northeast fans, after watching the Trojans go down to five straight defeats in their first year of football last year, find their team favored for the first time ever as they open their second campaign. Last year Holloway was forced to send a totally untested group of youngsters in battle against more experienced teams week after week. The five straight losses
