The teams are the host Clarkdale School and the new Southeast Lauderdale County High School near Vimville. This will be the first year of football for these teams as well as the West Lauderdale team which opens its season September 14 against Northeast Lauderdale. The Northeast team will be in its second year. The Clarkdale – Southeast game will get under way at 8 p.m. Bob Ethridge is the head coach at Clarkdale and Dick Massengill is the Southeast coach. Most other football teams in the Meridian area swing into action with games Friday night, some of them in important conference games. There are three conference games on tap for Friday in rugged Choctaw Conference where Louisville has been given the preseason nod as the leading title contender. These league games match Louisville against Eupora at Louisville, Noxubee County of Macon at Carthage and Kosciusko at Union. Other games involving Choctaw Conference teams have Morton at Newton in a traditional season opener between these two strong teams, DeKalb at New Hope, Quitman at West Point and Philadelphia at Starkville.
