The Age of

Ferdinand Magellan was an explorer with the aim of traveling the world. He went on a ship with his crew to fulfill his aim. Although he died on the way, in the Phillipean Islands 1521, his crew made it around the world. The journey took 30 years. They started from Spain, then crossed the Atlantic and into the Pacific ocean, all the way to the Indian ocean and back to Spain.

Vasco de Gama was the first explorer to reach India by sea. In his first Voyage, he went from Lisbon with four ships, heading towards the Cape Verde Islands, Africa. Then to the Mozambique, Mombassa, Malindi and finally arriving in Calicut, India 1498. He returned back to Lisbon, 1499. King Manuel I of Portugal rewarded him with the town of Sines as a hereditary fief.
