Three days before Christmas, our car died. We still had things to do to get ready for our traditions. We didn’t have another vehicle because it didn’t pass inspection. Almost three years after my husband’s last accident, we were still waiting for the claim to be resolved. It was his third accident in a 10-month period and none of them were his fault. We were still trying to rebound back from it all. Thankfully, we had purchased our Christmas tree last Friday! It was a blessing in disguise that we wouldn’t realize until now, three months later after a long bitter winter.
It does not help you to worry about tomorrow. In fact, we are told in the Bible that tomorrow has enough worry of its own (Matthew 6:34). Jesus also told us to cast all our cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7), for His yoke is light compared to ours (Matthew 11:30). The world functions on a different path.
The world we live in expects everyone to plan ahead, work today for a better tomorrow, and worry about what is going to happen next. If things go well, then you feel success. If things go the opposite way, then you are drowning in guilt and shame. Fear develops and when that can’t be squelched, anxiety rears its ugly head. Instead of living in the joy and peace that God says is ours for those who love and believe in Him (Romans 14:17), thoughts of impending doom and gloom seem to take over. You try to solve the problems on your own, but He says to cast our cares on Him. He knows our needs before we even ask Him.
