Trusting His Lead
by Bonnie Beardsley
Don’t know how many times when God has asked me to do something new, I come up with excuses like Moses as to why not me. Like Moses, I felt like I am not qualified to do what He wants me to do. God doesn’t take our no’s. He ask us to step out of our comfort zone so we have to trust Him more.
It is when we do step out of our comfort zone and do what He ask us to do, we find strength, and everything we need to do what He wants us to do. One of my favorite examples in the Bible is Joshua. He had some big sandals to fill when he took over for Moses as the leader of the Hebrews. Joshua must have been overwhelmed at what God was asking of him, Joshua 1:9 ESV;
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
There are several points in this verse which help us to trust God when he calls us to do something new. Starting with “Be strong...” The Hebrew word for strong is chazaq not only means strong it also means; repair, strengthened, harden… When I saw the definition it brings to my mind the repair my husband had to do to our fence after a storm bent the metal post that the contractor put in. He replaced the poles with a stronger gauge and put a really think pole down the center. The concrete he used was stronger and he made it deeper into the ground. That is not going to bend no matter how strong the wind is. That is the strength we are to have when we trust in God, that our faith in him will not waiver or be destroyed no matter the storm we face.
