of that son by another son
and then the attempt on
David’s life by the same
son. All these were the
result of David’s mistake in
sleeping with Bathsheba.
Then Bathsheba conceived
a second time and Solomon was born; surely
such a child would not and could not be king,
right? Wrong.
If you think the odds are against you
think about Solomon for a moment; do you
realize he would have been ridiculed growing
up? He was the child born out of an adulterous union that had brought great pain to the
family. What about his mother, Bathsheba,
who became Queen Mother? Do you think
under the given circumstances, she would
have been the popular choice for such a position? She was a woman of loose morals and
surely should not be seen or heard; she should
remain in her room and in hiding for she was a
disgrace to womanhood, right? Perhaps, but,
against all odds she became Queen Mother.
Esther was another person who rose
to prominence against all odds. She had two
major issues that disqualified her from being
queen. One, she was a slave girl. Two, she was
a foreigner. Under normal circumstances she
should never have been queen but against the
odds she became queen.
David was a shepherd boy and had no
business being king, even
his father agreed to this
