The truth is, no matter what the odds are, you can excel and you do not have to settle for second best. A curse was also placed on David’s household that led to the rape of his daughter by his son and the killing of that son by another son and then the attempt on David’s life by the same son. All these were the result of David’s mistake in sleeping with Bathsheba. Then Bathsheba conceived a second time and Solomon was born; surely such a child would not and could not be king, right? Wrong. If you think the odds are against you think about Solomon for a moment; do you realize he would have been ridiculed growing up? He was the child born out of an adulterous union that had brought great pain to the family. What about his mother, Bathsheba, who became Queen Mother?
