How do you foresee the growth of an apostolic movement vital to bringing reformation and revival to the nations?
become present, because the powers of the coming age are eclipsing the current age. Generative leadership is essentially apostolic and creates momentum because there is a‘ generative impulse’ given by the Holy Spirit, according to John 16:13 when He“ discloses what is to come” to those who are following His lead. There are things that“ want to” unfold, and there is a future that“ wants to” emerge. That unfolding and that emerging requires a movement that is generative. If it isn’ t generative, it isn’ t apostolic. Apostolic movements anticipate the future prior to its arrival, and then go about working with the Spirit to bring that future into present reality, and create a Kingdom Culture that everyone wants to belong to.
It is my conviction that there is a great leap forward beginning to unfold in the Kingdom. Everything that can be shaken is being shaken. When the writer to the Hebrews in Hebrews 12:27-28 quotes the Prophet Haggai in this regard, the word for“ shaken” in the Hebrew is a fascinating study. It doesn’ t merely imply the concept of“ shaking”, it actually, at its root, means to leap forward, and to spring forward like a leaping horse. The“ removal” of those things that can be shaken is the transferring of things from one place to another by way of a leap. There was a revolutionary leap that took place 500 years ago that occurred both in science and theology. Both of these leaps took place within the framework of the Church. The Copernican Revolution and the Great Reformation took place in the same era. Science and Spirituality, Time and Technology were in a heated debate in this season. All the signs indicate that for there to be another great move of the Spirit, there will have to be a company of men and women as brave and as courageous as Copernicus and Luther, and all the other reformers in every sphere of society. It was the late Phyllis Tickle, a lay theologian in the Anglican Communion who said that every 500 years God has a“ rummage sale.” We are seemingly at such a turning point in history. There are great upheavals in every area of our culture, and while some are forecasting doom and gloom, an argument based on the validity of Scripture and Church history seems to indicate another great outpouring of the Spirit is headed our way. May the ascended and glorified Christ anoint us afresh to steward a movement that unleashes a flood tide of His grace and glory in the Earth, with signs and wonders following.
