Hornsby Shire Council is pleased to announce the return of the award-winning Second-Hand Hornsby Markets on Sunday 12 April, bringing the community together once again to celebrate reuse, sustainability and great local bargains.
Held at Coronation StrEat, the April market is the first of four Second Hand Hornsby Markets scheduled for the year, with additional events planned for 12 July, 13 September and 8 November.
The markets were recently recognised at the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Awards 2025, receiving a Highly Commended award in the Waste Avoidance category. The recognition highlights the success of Council’ s Second- Hand Hornsby initiative.
Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell said there has been strong community support for reducing waste and keeping quality items in circulation.
“ Since launching, the Second-Hand Hornsby Markets have helped keep more than 5,600 items in use and over $ 36,000 within the local reuse economy, with thousands of residents choosing preloved over landfill. The markets show that small changes in shopping habits can make a real difference, and the April market is a great opportunity to make mindful

choices, support sustainability and uncover some unique bargains.”
Building on the success of the markets, Council has also launched a new Second Hand Hornsby Op Shop Trail, now available on Council’ s website. The trail includes all op shops across the Hornsby Shire and encourages residents and visitors to explore the area while giving pre-loved items a new life.
From clothing and homewares to quirky collectibles, each stop along the

trail helps keep quality goods out of landfill and supports a more sustainable community. The Op Shop Trail makes it easy to shop smart, save money and uncover hidden gems across the Shire.
The Second-Hand Hornsby Market will run from 9am to 1pm on Sunday 12 April in the car park on Coronation Street and in the Coronation StrEat space. Stallholder spaces are popular and community members are encouraged to arrive early to make the most of the day.

Second Hand Hornsby aligns with Council’ s Waste Matters Strategy and is part of several initiatives, including Bicycle Repair and Clothes Swap events, to maximise resource recovery and reduce landfill.
