ONE OF THE HILLS FINEST...
Martha is one of a kind, an entrepreneur who values community before business. by Lorna Gordon
When Martha Mok took over the Facebook group‘ Yeah the Girls 40 Plus’, it had just 3,000 members. A little over a year later, that number has skyrocketed to more than 35,000 women, and it’ s still growing. But it’ s not just the numbers that are impressive. It’ s the heart behind the movement.
Martha Mok isn’ t your typical businesswoman. She’ s a hair and makeup artist, a multi-business entrepreneur, a DV survivor, a coach, and above all, a community builder. She is proof that when support comes first and business second, extraordinary things can happen.
The passion Martha pours into her work didn’ t come from a textbook, it came from deep personal loss and hard-won lessons. After surviving 19 years of domestic violence and a lifetime of bullying, she made a decision not to dwell in the darkness but to become a light for others. That commitment was tested when she lost her beloved cat of 16 years.
“ I was in a very bad state,” she admits.“ I was grieving deeply, and that’ s when I met my current partner. Around the same time, the founder of the Yeah the Girls 40 Plus group was thinking of shutting it down due to online attacks.”
Rather than let the group vanish, Martha stepped in and asked to be an admin. Within weeks, 300 to 400 new women were joining daily. Drawing from her marketing background, she put a structure in place to ensure the group would be more than just a social circle, it would become an educational platform.
Today, Yeah the Girls 40 Plus is a registered business with themed days for Business discussions, a focus on Menopause and many others. It features contributions from 18 different
verified experts. There’ s a monthly digital magazine( 160 pages strong), a YouTube channel, and a podcast— each designed to give women the tools they need to live more confidently and abundantly.
To keep the community thriving, Martha recently introduced a modest paid advertising model: $ 99 / month for expert contributors, which helps fund the expo, the awards, and ongoing content production. But before any expert is approved, Martha personally interviews them.“ I want to make sure they are who they say they are and that they can handle supporting our members. I’ m the crazy person who goes through every post, gives feedback, and helps.”
The motto behind the group? Exactly the same as Martha’ s own motto: support first, business second.
This approach has benefitted everyone in the group and on November 1st, Martha will host the Celebrating Women Expo and Awards Gala, a free event designed to uplift, educate, and champion women from all walks of life. She had been told that she might have left it too late to fill all the stands at the expo, but Martha managed to sell out all 60 exhibitor stands in just three weeks. An achievement that speaks to the momentum and impact of the online community.
The expo is not about glitz or glamour. It’ s grounded in reality, focused on helping the women who“ truly need help— the ones who are still down to earth.” As Martha puts it,“ Why do we need to hide all the time? Imperfection is beautiful. These women deserve to be celebrated.”
The event will feature a diverse range of small business owners, health practitioners, mindset coaches, sexologists, and finance experts. Three speaker rooms will run sessions on everything from bullying prevention and menopause to
