Call for entries: 2025 Hornsby Art Prize now open

Hornsby Shire Council is pleased to announce that entries for the prestigious national Hornsby Art Prize will open on Monday, 2 June.
Celebrating and promoting Australian contemporary art, the well-regarded prize invites artists to submit works in the categories of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and sculpture. This year’ s prize pool totals $ 23,000, with a major prize of $ 10,000 on offer.
Hornsby Shire Mayor, Warren Waddell, emphasised the prize’ s vital contribution to both the Shire’ s cultural landscape and the broader Australian arts scene.
“ The Hornsby Art Prize offers our community the chance to engage with exceptional contemporary artworks right here in our local area,” said Mayor Waddell.“ It also presents a unique opportunity for local artists to gain national exposure. I encourage all artists who are considering entering to submit their work and be part of this outstanding event.”
Western Sydney artist Dave Snook was awarded the top prize in 2024 for his painting Labour Plein Air, while Dangar Island resident David Collins received the Hornsby Shire Local Artist Award.
Entries for the 2025 prize close on Thursday, 7 August and must be submitted online. Entry is $ 40 per artwork. All submissions must be original works created within the past two years and must not have been entered in a previous art prize.
The Hornsby Art Prize is nonacquisitive and open to all Australian
residents aged 18 and over. It is organised and sponsored by Hornsby Shire Council in partnership with the Hornsby Art Society.
While the main prize is open to artists from across Australia, Hornsby Shire residents may also nominate their work for the Hornsby Shire Local Artist Award.
The Finalists’ Exhibition will be held at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre from 12 to 28 September 2025, open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am – 4pm. Entry is free. Finalists will be selected and judged by a panel of two appointed experts.
