Berowra Car Boot Market and Clothing Swap – Second Hand Hornsby

Berowra is soon to become a destination for residents looking to declutter some of their pre-loved items , as well as those who are searching for a bargain , with Hornsby Shire Council to host a Car Boot Market and Clothing Swap on Sunday 25 June .
This market day follows last year ’ s launch of Council ’ s garage sale platform , Second Hand Hornsby . The innovative service on Council ’ s website allows residents to list their garage sales and plan their day of visiting sales across the Shire .
Council is encouraging locals to reduce the number of items sent to landfill , by instead opting to give their unwanted items a new lease on life . Some of the items that will be on offer at the Car Boot Market include toys , furniture , books , sporting equipment and other household items .
Mayor Philip Ruddock has called on the local community to get involved in the fun-filled initiative and by doing so , playing a part in helping conserve Hornsby Shire ’ s environment .
“ This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to come together , whether buying or selling , to experience the fun of car boot markets ,” Mayor Ruddock said .
“ The Car Boot Market and
Clothing Swap is an initiative which is environmentally , socially and financially rewarding , and will be reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill .”
Berowra Car Boot Market will run from 9am-1pm at the Berowra Community Centre . Limited parking is available , so anyone keen to attend is encouraged to travel via public transport .
Stall holders are now able to register for free , on the Hornsby Shire Council website .
While Hornsby Shire residents are recycling more and more every year ; growing concerns remain around fast fashion . In helping to reduce this , a clothing swap will also take place between 10am-12pm in the Community Centre auditorium . Anyone interested in taking part in the clothing exchange needs to book online as spaces are limited .
Second Hand Hornsby aligns with Council ’ s Waste Matters Strategy and is part of several initiatives to assist Council achieve its goal of diverting 80 per cent of community waste from landfill by 2030 .

New Aussie Citizens welcomed

There were plenty of smiles and cheers during the latest Hills Shire Citizenship Ceremony .
Approximately 253 new citizens took the final step in their citizenship journey after moving to Australia from countries as far as Sri Lanka , India , the Philippines , Iran , Vietnam and many more .
The David family of Castle Hill were thrilled to take the pledge during the ceremony .
Mohan and Patrice David moved to Australia from England with their two children Emerald and Alexander after enjoying a family holiday to the land down under more than 11 years ago .
“ We ’ ve embraced Australia as our home , and it made sense to do this step and become Australians ,” Patrice said .
“ We are enjoying everything about Australia .”
Mohan said they moved to The Hills to be closer to family and friends and described their new home as ‘ familyfriendly .’
Alexander said he enjoyed the greenery of The Hills Shire .
“ There ’ s a lot of nature and wildlife in this area , which is nice to see ,”

Alexander added . The night also proved significant for Aastha Juneja who was celebrating her new citizenship with her husband , Vinay , and their three-month-old son , Krishiv .
Aastha moved to Australia almost five years ago after getting married .
“ It was my first ever trip overseas . I came here as a naive young girl full of ambition and here I am five years later with my beautiful baby , my beautiful husband and my Australian citizenship ,” Aastha said . “ I couldn ’ t have asked for more ! “ As young migrants , the Hills provided excellent opportunities for us to start our family home .
“ It ’ s a beautiful family environment , and we are very excited to live our life here .”
