LIFE & STYLE

MAKE A DIFFERENCE : Stephanie Pinto

by Lorna Gordon
Growing up in Baulkham Hills , Stephanie Pinto knew she wanted to help people . After school she went to Sydney University where she studied speech pathology and became a speech therapist , hoping to improve people ’ s lives through her work .
She enjoyed helping children and families with personal challenges but became frustrated with the small number of people she was able to help at any one time , especially when she often saw children who struggled with big emotions . Knowing there must be more she could offer , she started to look into Emotional Intelligence and after reading articles decided that this was something which could help children as well as adults .
“ When I was reading about Emotional Intelligence , I began to wonder why we aren ’ t doing this for our kids and instilling this with them instead of focusing on adults . I was lucky enough to meet a few people who were doing this work and trained to become an Emotional Intelligence coach as well as doing speech therapy part time .”
From this small beginning , Stephanie has grown to have quite a following . During COVID she continued her training through the Cool Kids Anxiety Program at Macquarie University and qualified to become a Paediatric Anxiety coach . Using her training she developed courses that she could offer parents , some are one to one , some are group coaching and others are quick hour long Masterclass sessions that you can take yourself .
This year saw Stephanie take a huge leap when she published a book called From Chaos to Connection , which outlines an approach to parenting based on understanding emotions and child development . The book began in COVID , however , what she had hoped would be a project that would be completed over a few months , took several years due to the demand that lockdown placed on parents . While it took longer than Stephanie anticipated , it was obviously worth the wait as it hit the Amazon best seller status in several different categories !
This is not the only high point of 2023 for Stephanie , she also ran a virtual conference centred round ADHD parents and children with a colleague in Canada , Dana Kaye .
“ The conference showcased the work of 30 guest speakers and reached over 4,700 parents around the world . It was a whole lot of work and a big learning curve , but we hope to run it once a year now that we know how to set it all up .”
Not only does Stephanie run her own business she is also a regular contributor to magazines and is rapidly becoming a highly sought after speaker at events as well . I think it ’ s safe to say that she is now achieving what she hoped to do all those years ago as a speech therapist and changing the lives of all the families who come into contact with her .
