Cop this tip !
The place to be on Sunday , June 18 , will be Riverstone Police Station with the local constabulary hosting Riverstone Police Area Command ’ s first-ever Police Open Day .
Perhaps even people “ known to police ” could be drawn to the open day , such is the information and entertainment being planned to interest both young and old .
There ’ s a bevy of interesting attractions to delight and educate an expected big roll-up of folk to the 4 Elizabeth Street station between 10am- 2pm .
Just about all police units will be in attendance to meet and greet visitors including the Police Dog Unit , Mounted Police Unit , Traffic and Highway Patrol units and the Police Band .
The kiddies are in for a marvelous time of it , because not only will they get to pat the police dogs and the gee-gees , they will also meet Constable Charlie , the arresting penguin who will be thrilled to chat and hand out his informative Hello I ’ m Uncle Charlie activity book .
The book is provided by the NSW Police Force , together with the community , to teach children simple strategies for their personal safety .
Also in attendance to entertain and inform will be members of the NSW Police Forensic Unit , the Police Citizens Youth Club , the Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service .
Riverstone officers will also be thrilled to take visitors on guided tours of the police station .
All that excitement will build up a thirst and hunger , but Riverstone officers and their volunteers in Policing ( ViP ) staff will ensure everyone is catered for .
“ Kings Langley Lions Club will ensure visitors will be able to purchase a range of BBQ fare as well as coffee and refreshments ,” said long-time ViP member , Gil France .
ViPs take a heavy workload off serving police officers , allowing them to devote more time to fighting crime and keeping law and order . Their wide range of tasks include :
- assisting police with victim support and customer service
- support witnesses attending court and during the court process
- perform community liaison functions such as senior citizens meeting and community safety committees - assisting during times of disaster or emergency
- maintaining local registers including citizens at risk and key holder registers
- assisting with school fetes and youth programs
- promoting crime prevention initiatives by distributing crime prevention materials at shopping centres , schools , car parks and home addresses
- performing administrative tasks such as minute taking , shredding , filing , photocopying and packing
So , have you copped the tip ?
