Castle Hill students set to thrive - in a digital world
Creating the next generation of tech leaders , entrepreneurs and experts is at the heart of the new Computing Technologies curriculum released today . Member for Castle Hill Ray Williams MP said the updated curriculum ensures students in Castle Hill are prepared for future jobs in a fast changing digital world .
“ Students in Castle Hill need to develop an understanding of essential computing skills to not only keep themselves safe in a digital world , but also to thrive in the careers of the future ,” Mr Williams said .
“ These new syllabuses mean that right from the beginning of high school , students can learn fundamental skills in coding , cyber security and information systems for businesses .
“ The curriculum has also been updated to better reflect the latest computing technologies and the expectations of industry , so that we create the next generation of tech savvy experts here in Castle Hill .”
Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell said the new Enterprise Computing and Software Engineering syllabuses for Years 11 to 12 will also see secondary students sitting more HSC exams online in 2025 .
“ The NSW Government is bringing subjects and the HSC into the modern era with new syllabuses that align to our fast changing digital world ,” Ms Mitchell said . Key features of the new syllabuses include : - A greater focus on cyber safety and cyber security content
- Closer links to learning in other subjects such as maths and science to create clearer pathways into future STEM study and careers - All senior secondary students will do a new mandatory project as part of school-based assessment to support deeper learning and the development of project skills
New streamlined Geography 11 to 12 syllabuses have also been delivered , removing clutter and allowing teachers to focus on essential learning so students gain the skills , knowledge and understanding to be informed global citizens .
Additionally , the NSW Government has released new Classical and Modern Languages syllabuses for Kindergarten to Year 10 .
The new syllabuses are available now on the Digital Curriculum platform for teachers to plan during 2023 and will be taught in NSW schools from 2024 .
Mr Alex Koch new Head of College
William Clarke College welcomed the appointment of Mr Alex Koch as new Head of College on Thursday November 10 . Mr Koch will commence at the college from 1 January 2023 .
Mr Koch joins William Clarke from his most recent position as Deputy Headmaster – Secondary School at Arndell Anglican College .
Mr Koch is excited to be joining the William Clarke community and is honored to be appointed their fourth Head of College .
“ The fact that William Clarke College is a Christ-centred community is very attractive to me . William Clarke has a great history in wrestling with what it means to be a Christ-centred community in today ’ s world ,” he said . “ William Clarke has shown the courage to concentrate on the holistic development of their students , and to prepare each student thoroughly for life beyond school . I share the college ’ s desire to see students thrive in the classroom and beyond .”

increasingly globalised and digitally connected world . This has included giving students the opportunity to explore their passions and interests , which we know enhances motivation and engagement ,” stated Mr Koch .
“ It is also clear that William Clarke has prioritised literacy and numeracy in the junior years and their approach is clearly effective .”
With a Masters of Educational Leadership , a Bachelor of Divinity from Moore College , a Bachelor of Education , a Bachelor of Science ( Mathematics ) and recent completion of the Company Directors Course with the Australian Institute of Company Directors , Mr Koch is well equipped to lead the college .
Mr Koch has also served at several schools including St Catherine ’ s School at Waverley , St Andrew ’ s Cathedral School and Shore School . He is currently a Director on the Board of CRU .
The college believes Mr Koch ’ s personal faith aligns with the strong Christian foundation and tradition that is at the very core of William Clarke College .
