A term of hard work , collaboration and creativity came to fruition on Friday 28 October when Northholm Grammar students gathered in the Lincoln Centre to be educated by their leading experts and their peers at the Annual Year 10 Health Expo .
During PDHPE lessons , students were tasked with exploring current Australian statistical evidence and identifying health issues that were significant for young people . They were challenged to design a stall that would educate the Northholm community about their chosen issue .
They considered ways to engage their audience so they could connect and converse with their peers around these important topics . The issues students selected included consent and sexual safety , mental health and wellbeing , dangers of vaping , sun safety , party safety and domestic violence .
The students completed group research projects and led panel presentations where they discussed their health issues in detail and had the opportunity to answer questions from the audience . Year 7 , 8 and 9 students attended the expo and engaged meaningfully in the stalls . This challenged our Year 10 students to think on their feet
|
to not only recall their research but use it to educate others in a meaningful way .
During the health expo , we were joined by community organisations such as Diabetes Australia , Dance Wize , Healthy Kids Association and also our local NSW Police Liaison Officer , Lynda Hart , who worked alongside Year 10 students in sharing their passion for their work . The community organisation providers spoke with the students and shared their knowledge and experiences about ways to live healthy lives .
Additionally , a select group of Year 10 students presented a TED talk to open the expo . The topic was Be The Change You Want To See . It was inspiring to see Northholm students challenging themselves and other young people to stand up and speak out on the issues that matter !
We congratulate the students on being able to develop the tools required to collaborate with both external organisations and their peers to be able to create such a successful and inspiring event .
Northholm Grammar students are encouraged to serve their community and build positive relationships and connection with external bodies so they

can make a valuable contribution within our community . Learning opportunities such as the health expo help shape our students to be men and women of character and future leaders . |
