PREFECTS

Incoming

The feeling of elation was slowly wearing off after being appointed prefects; we were supposed to hit the ground running to avoid creating a vacuum seeing as our predecessors were busy with examinations. The tradition was broken somewhat when MO started us off with a surprise lunch at County House in Karen; it was comforting to see Gary and Pavan around as they would
orientate us on the expectations ahead. The niceties over, we headed to Lukenya, where we would be immersed in a series of toughening bonding activities. Ms Algar and Mr Eveson came along to bond with the team that would be working very closely with them. They stayed with us throughout the bonding weekend, participating in everything, including the high ropes. Talk about commitment! For me, the dodge the ball challenge and charades were particularly exciting; we laughed and eased down from the tension that had built up during the two-hour journey. Rope climbing in groups helped us to learn to trust and depend on each other which is critically important if we are to work as a team. Even for those of us who are shy, the activities helped us to step out of our comfort zone and take charge! By Hafsa Mughal
