HILLCREST SECONDARY SCHOOL Final HILLCREST MAG 2017

Nairobi Region Secondary Schools Sports Championships Hillcrest School was honoured to represent Nairobi North in the Nairobi Region Secondary Schools Sports Championships that were held at Nairobi School. These championships were qualifiers for the 2017 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Championships to be held in Nairobi. Hillcrest were pooled together with Precious Blood, Kianda School and Parklands Arya Girls. Our first match of the day was a walk over against Precious Blood giving us 3 easy points and 5 goals as per the rules. We then played Kianda School whom we beat 1-0 and finally played against Parklands Arya where we lost 2-0 but after having put up a brave show. The 2 goals were scored in the dying minutes of the match when it is understandable that everyone is tired and concentration is low. Against all odds, the team that was made up majorly of year 62 9s did a great job and sailed through to the semi-finals. The semi-finals match was played against Moi Girls School who had a team made up of senior students who were well seasoned in the competitions. Mumbi Maina was very impressive in goal saving numerous shots. One would have been fooled to think that she was a seasoned goalkeeper yet that was her first time behind the line of fire. Michelle Harderwijk, Sara Bottura and Chelsea Matu were indispensable at the centre field and showed off their skill and ability in a characteristic Hillcrest fashion. The defence was ably manned by Lillian Sorensen who was the darling of the crowd with her frequent saves and clearances from the 23 metre line. Chiara Roux, Anna Nora and Doris Nsanzimana joined hands with her as fellow defensive midfielders where they did an exemplary job. The attack was ably led by Joan Njuguna, Nina Redinger, Nicole Terblans, Miracle Denga and Safiya Hannan-Parker, the latter 2 who worked tirelessly despite having been up the Aberdares Ranges just a day earlier. Well done girls and I look forward to next year!
