-United Kingdom-
Our Walking holidays in the UK are in the
main, centred around the South West of
England. One of the most well-known
long distance trails in the region is the
South West Coast Path (SWCP) which at
630 miles long is the longest National
Trail in England. Starting at Minehead in
Somerset it runs along the coastline of
Exmoor and North Devon into Cornwall.
It follows the entire coastline of Corn-
wall, continues into the south coast of
Devon and follows the Dorset coastline
to Poole Harbour. North of the SWCP is a much shorter long-
distance trail The Mendip Way from the
coast in Somerset at Weston Super Mare to
Frome via The Mendip Hills. The route goes
via Cheddar, with England's largest gorge,
and Wells, England's smallest City. The
limestone Mendip plateau is punctuated by
spectacular gorges and on its hilltops are
numerous ancient monuments. The area
has been designated as an Area of Out-
standing Natural Beauty (AONB).
We have 3 beautiful and very different
sections of the coast path to offer our
customers. Our newest is South Cornwall
Coast: Historic Ports & Fishing Villages
which covers the last section of the
Cornwall coast path from Falmouth to
Plymouth. There are numerous small
bays, picturesque fishing villages, head-
lands and beautiful estuaries along this
stretch to the historic port of Plymouth. Our West Mendip Explorer: Somerset
Heights to Somerset Levels is aimed at
sharing with people the range of land-
scapes across this region taking in the ever
present Glastonbury Tor rising above the
Somerset Levels and the highest point of
the Mendips at Beacon Batch.
We also cover the landscape around the
Dorset/Wiltshire border, a land of rolling
grass downland. Our flexible centre-based
Hart of the Cranborne Chase takes in a
central band of the ancient kings' hunting
ground from Shaftesbury in the North East
of the Chase to Cranborne in the South
East; an area of chalk escarpments, ancient
burial grounds, woodland and picturesque
villages.
Our Wonders of Wessex holiday takes a
route from the medieval city of Salisbury
to the Saxon hill-top town of Shaftesbury
via Stonehenge and a multitude of sites of
interest including Wardour Castle and
Wilton House. The area known as Wessex
was an Anglo-Saxon kingdom. However,
Thomas Hardy is regarded as being largely
responsible for the popular modern use of
the term “Wessex” to describe the south-
west region of England (with the exception
of Cornwall).
