Snow Shoeing in the Queyras
D
iscover the French Alps under its winter blanket of snow. Based
in a wonderful 3-star hotel in Arvieux, our snow shoeing
Guided Walking
holiday will allow you to discover the most beautiful landscapes of
the Queyras, as well as discovering a region full of unique traditions
and architecture. Each day your guide will take you to a different
valley in the Queyras Regional Park to discover the best this spectacular and relatively undiscovered Queyras Region has to offer. The
Queyras is a landscape that offers far ranging panoramic views
which are bathed in sunshine for 300 days a year.
This holiday is available as a moderate or challenging holiday. The
moderate holiday is ideal for those groups looking to discover snow
shoeing for the first time as well as experienced walkers looking for
an easy week. The more challenging holiday is ideal for those
groups experienced in snow shoeing who are looking for a holiday
where the walks access wonderful mountain summits.
Walks: day-by-day
Day 1: Arrival – Welcome at Montdauphin—Guillestre train station and transfer to hotel
Day 2: Moderate holiday—Balcony path around St Véran
A gentle start to get used to your snow shoes. A wonderful balcony path between 2 pretty
hamlets to discover not only Saint Véran, classed as one of the prettiest villages in France,
but also views of the Queyras summits. 4hrs, +/-300m
Day 2: Challenging holiday—Pointe des Vallonnets (2450m)
This panoramic ridge at almost 2500m is little known outside of the Queyras but offers
great views of the Queyras valleys and its hamlets. 5hrs 30, +/-800m
Day 3: Moderate holiday—La Monta to la Medille
An easy start before we enter a nature reserve to look for chamois and ibex with superb
views of the mighty Mont Viso. 4hrs, +/-400m
Day 3: Challenging holiday—Pic du Chalvet (2475m)
A pretty and direct itinerary through forest and clearings in a wild valley bringing you to a
summit at almost 2500m with great views of Mont Viso. 6hrs, +/-950m
Day 4: Moderate holiday—Le Raux—la Croix de Curlet (2301m)
From le Raux we’ll follow the torrent Aigue Blanche through larch forest to reach the summit of la Croix de Curlet. A walk along a ridge provides great panoramic views over Saint
Véran and surrounding summits. Guided visit of Saint Véran. 4hrs 30, +/-480m
Day 4: Challenging holiday—Pic de la Gardiole (2786m)
Today we’ll climb to almost 2800m, where the view from the summit takes in the whole
Queyras range. Superb descent. 6hrs +1050m, -900m
Day 5: Moderate holiday—Arvieux and Chalets de Clapeyto
Not far from your hotel you’ll climb under immense cliffs through small plateaux and valleys
to reach the traditional alpine chalets of Clapeyto, a picture postcard scene. 5hrs, +/-500m
Day 5: Challenging holiday—Pic du Fond de Peynin (2910m)
This walk is first and foremost a classic among mountain skiers but less well know for snow
shoes. Its central location provides exceptional views over the park. 6hrs +/-900m

Climb to reach the Bucher summit at 2254m with 360° views across the Queyras mountains. A great final day. 4hrs 30 +/-500m.
Day 6: Challenging holiday—Pic Traversier (2882m)
A superb high mountain feel on this walk which leads to a summit with unique views of the
Alpine chain. 6hrs, +/-950m
Day 7: Departure - Transfer to train station after breakfast
