Classic Provence: Luberon Trails
0 ur guided walking holiday in the Luberon takes in some of the best loved hill-top villages in Provence. Moderate walking lets you discover a pretty landscape of vines, lavender, orchards and forests where small hills provide generous vantage points. You’ ll explore the beautiful, historic villages of Gordes, Lacoste, Bonnieux, Saint Saturnin and Roussillon, among many others, each with their own special character. Despite the popularity of the region, your holiday explores quiet trails inbetween the villages where each step is infused with the smell of Provence herbs. At the end of each day relax by the pool and soak up the Provence sunshine at your delightful accommodation.
Walks: day-by-day Day 1: Arrival – Welcome, pick up from Lyon or Avignon & transfer to Luberon.
Day 2: Tour from Gordes Explore the historic perched village of Gordes- probably the most famous village in the Luberon- and undertake a circular walk via Abbaye de Sénanque, built in 1148, and one of the most photographed sites in Provence. Chance to visit the famous village des Bories( restored museum of the dry stone shelters found in the region.) 14km- + 250m /-250m.
Day 3: Bonnieux & Petit Luberon ridge Bonnieux is another wonderful Provence village. The view from Bonnieux is wonderful out across the valley floor with its patchwork of orchards and vineyards, towards Lacoste, which you’ ll also get to visit. You can climb on cobbled streets all the way to the top and visit the ruins of the castle of the Marquis de Sade. Then drive up onto the Petit Luberon and its Cedar Forest. The views from the ridge are superb. Up to 14km
Day 4: Joucas, Mur and Gorge de Vezoule Your trail takes you off the beaten path through less frequented villages and a mixture of forest and vines, truffle plantations and pasture. Your trail also passes through the Vezoule gorge with amazing meanders. 15km, + 390m
Day 5: Boux and Aigue Brun gorge Your walk takes in a lovely historic chapel, the medieval fort de Boux, the pretty hamlet of Sivergues, a pretty and historic salt trail, as well as the secluded Aigue Brun Gorge harbouring a vegetation unlike elsewhere in the area. Admire the huge limestone cliffs as you enjoy a drink at the auberge after your walk. Also visit the beautiful village of Saignon. 12km, + 250 m
Day 6: Tour from Viens and Colorado Provencal After exploring the perched village of Viens your trail follows a ridge with superb views out all the way to the north and west towards the Albion Plateau and Mont Ventoux. Afterwards explore the wonderful landscapes and colours of the Colorado Provencal where ochre deposits form wonderful towers and fins of rock. 16km, + 350m
Day 7: St Saturnin Visit the wonderful hill-top village of St Saturnin les Apt, nestled along the base of a long, low cliff, with the ruins of a castle above. Explore its pretty streets before we head west and leave the vineyards and olive groves behind to climb onto the impressive Madeleine cliffs overlooking the hamlet of Lioux, which are 100m high and over 1km in length. Great panoramic views. After, visit the pretty ochre coloured village of Roussillon
Day 8: Departure- After breakfast, transfer to Avignon or Lyon

Walking Profile
6 guided day walks. Walking on this holiday is mixed with moderate ascents and descents. Average distances are about 15km with about 300m of ascent. Most walks are well within the grade, although due to the nature of the landscape some small sections can be relatively steep and stony. Your walking days allow lots of time for exploring the villages.
