Secret Provence: Baronnies Explorer O Independent Walking ur Baronnies Explorer self-guided walking holiday discovers a remarkably beautiful and quiet area in northern Provence. This is a secret and unspoilt corner of France where the Alps meet the Provence with beautiful historic villages and hamlets clinging to rocky mountain sides decorated in lavender, thyme, vines, olives, orchards and woodland. This multi-centred holiday is designed to allow you to explore the Baronnies Regional Park at your own pace. You decide the number of nights and places you want to stay and we create a holiday tailored to your interests. Our walking guide includes a series of wonderful day walks of various lengths and difficulties spread across the park allowing you to discover one of the prettiest and least well known parts of France. The mixture of manicured fields in the valleys and wild and rugged ridges above creates beautiful landscapes bathed in the pure Provence sunshine. Walks: day-by-day Here is a selection of possible walks at each location Based near Nyons Vines, olives & Villages of Nyons: Explore vine covered slopes where the sandstone has been eroded into strange hills and deep ravines. Great panoramic views of the surrounding hills as you explore pretty villages such as Rousset-les Vignes. 18km, +300m Cougoir: Drive to a farm perched on the mountainside and climb to the summit of Cougoir which at over 1200m has dramatic 360° views. 6km, +350m Based at Sainte Jalle Tour of the 6 Cols: From the pretty ridgetop hamlet of Rochebrune you’ll discover a multitude of landscapes as you tour around remote and wild valleys 15km, +500m Poet Sigillat & Arpavon: This walk takes in two typical Baronnies hamlets, clinging to remote hilsides. Great views throughout as you traverse around the slopes of Grande Javoniere. 12km, +350m Ouveze Valley & Montagne de la Serriere: From Col Peyruergue, climb around rocky ridges above the picturesque Ennuye Valley, then return via orchard covered slopes with great views across the Ouveze Valley. 14km, +420m ♦ Unspoilt beautiful landscapes, quiet trails and varied walking through scented lavender fields, orchards, vines and wild scrub and forests ♦ Sleepy historic villages, unaltered for centuries perched on rocky slopes ♦ A favourable climate with 300 days of sunshine per year ♦ Flexible centre based holiday tailored to Based at Remuzat Saint May & Rocher de St Auban: your interests and time available Rocher de Bramard At a Glance This walk climbs gradually from the pretty village of Saint May to Plateau St Laurent and onto the edge of the grasslands of Rocher de St Alban for great panoramic views. Walk can be reduced in difficulty. 12km, +580m Climb Rocher de Bramard, a rocky peak, prominent in the Eygue Valley. 13km, +630m Based at La Honas Aulan Castle & rugged ravines: Transfer to Aulan, a pretty 12th century castle. Follow a picturesque valley to a desert of rocky ravines & then the perched village of le Poêt en Percip. Climb to a ridge with great panoramic views. Descend to B&B. 15km +530m GUIDED / INDEPENDENT Price: See Price List Barons of Mévoullion: From our B&B you traverse lavender fields before circling the remarkable table top mountain which was once the site of the fortress of the local barons in medieval times. Great views of Mont Ventoux. 17km, +/-280m Montagne de Chamousse: A wonderful walk from Col du Perty up to the summit of Chamousse which at over 1500m provides exceptional views over the Baronnies and east towards the Alps. Graded as moderate or moderate/challenging depending on your choices. Generally more moderate walks available than challenging ones. Due to the nature of the landscape some small sections can be relatively steep & rocky, & it would be unwise to do this holiday if you suffered from bad vertigo. Paths are generally good and well defined, although they can be rough in places. Starts every day of week during May, June, September and October, subject to availability. Day walks from one or several central guest houses. A car is necessary for this holiday. There is flexibility with respect to the number of nights and number of centres you wish to include. Up to 4 centres possible with walks to occupy a two week break. For example, stay near Nyons to discover a landscape of vines and olives before heading to Saint Jalle for remote landscapes and perched hamlets; or combine a stay at Remuzat for gorges and peaks with a stay at La Honas for lavender covered valleys and picturesque hills.
