T
he Beaujolais region is a series of picturesque rolling hills summiting around 1000m above sea level.
Known mostly for its wines, this quiet region has a lot
to offer the walker looking for moderate days out and
plenty of interest. Despite the relatively gentle nature
of their slopes, the scale of the peaks and the depths of
the valleys create a landscape of great panoramas and
rich contrasts. This guided holiday explores the full
range of Beaujolais landscapes from the high hills and
ridges to the famous vine covered slopes. You’ll also
get to discover the beautiful medieval villages in the
southern Beaujolais as well as the grand crus in the
north. Chateaux, pretty villages, wine tasting, and
great panoramas are all on the week’s menu.
Walks: day-by-day
Day 1: Arrival - Welcome in Lyon & transfer to Beaujolais
Day 2: French Tuscany

Day 3: Vines & ridges
This walk climbs up through the vineyards near Perréon in a picturesque, secluded valley.
The ascent finishes on a ridge of protected moorland and pastures providing great
panoramic views across the rolling hills. 19.5km, +520m
Day 4: Grand Crus
A shorter walk amid the vines that make up the most famous Beaujolais wines. Small hills
and ridges allow us to climb above the vineyards and gain great views across the sea of
grapes that spread towards the Saône. 12km, +150m

Day 5: Jarnioux
Our trail takes us past a number of chateaux including the amazing 13th century castle at
Jarnioux. Follow an old railway line over viaducts and across beautiful valleys lined with
vines. Visit the pretty historic villages of Cogny and Cosset. Wine tasting 14km, 350m

Day 6: Azergues Valley
GUIDED / INDEPENDENT
Discover a number of historic villages, the Azergues Valley and vast panoramic views all
on one walk. You’ll explore the charming hill-top villages of Chatillon d’Azergues and
Charnay, walk along the pretty Azergues River and follow a picturesque ridge-line. 16km,

Explore the high hills and woodland for amazing panoramic views of upland pasture
dotted with farms and historic villages such as Avenas with its rustic stone cottages and

6 day walks. The walks average about 15km with some moderate
ascents onto summits at around 800m. Shorter and longer days will
be alternated. The walks will be adapted to the group’s interests
and the weather conditions. Paths are generally good, although
they can be stony and rough in places.
