We like to highlight each day's walking with, for example, a breathtaking vista or an architectural treasure. Each holiday description includes a bullet pointed summary of some of its highlights. Options for interest include: Coastal - Mountains - Waterfalls & Lakes - Wine Tasting and Vines Historic Villages - Wildlife If you have a specific interest and not sure which walking holiday to choose please don't hesitate to give us a call to discuss your options, or drop us an e-mail with an outline of what you're looking for. On our website you can find information on the climate of the region you have chosen to explore, as well as some indications of ideal times of the year to visit, whether that's to see the lavender in bloom, the wine harvest or the autumn colours. We have a Holiday Diary (pages 13-14) with some seasonal guides to help you decide. Guided or Independent Walking? Guided Walking Holidays If you've not been on a walking holiday before and therefore inexperienced in navigation or using maps or walking notes, then maybe a guided holiday is for you. However the decision may not be that simple. Here's some help. Your Guide's local knowledge and experience: Your guide will make sure you make the most of your holiday through professional, informative and supportive leadership. As well as ensuring safe progression, the leader will bring to life the region, through his passion and knowledge on such subjects as history, geology, food and wine. We only use experienced guides that are resident in the country. The guide will pace the day so that there will be plenty of time to take photos, relax and soak up the atmosphere. Bilingual Guides: If you can, for example speak a little French, you maybe more confident to try out your grasp of the language with your hosts in the knowledge that your guide can help you out. Some of the French B&B owners speak English, but having a bilingual guide can certainly help you out with communication and therefore your enjoyment of your holiday. “We certainly all had a brilliant time thanks to the magnificent efforts you made for us. The experiences you set up over and above the pleasure of the walks were beyond all expectations and I should like to reiterate my sincere thanks to you for everything.” B. Wombwell, Wokingham Health Walks Walking Groups: Our guided walking holidays are ideal for groups of friends who enjoy walking as well as the more formal walking clubs that wish to explore further afield. Guided walking holidays are generally available for groups of between 4 and 24 people. The type of accommodation used and the price of the holiday will depend on the number in the group. We like to use smaller, more informal guest houses, where possible for our holidays, but this won’t be feasible with larger groups. Individuals or Small Groups: If you wish to go on one of our guided walking holidays but are travelling on your own or as a couple, then we may still be able to help you with your holiday plans. We can seek to form a group with other people who have contacted us with the same interests, or you may be able to join an existing group who are open to new additions. Once we have a few people interested in a particular holiday with a specific week in mind we will then advertise the holiday to fill the remaining places available. We will generally not confirm the holiday until the minimum number of 4 people has been reached. Flexibility: Flexibility around local situations or circumstances by changing the itinerary where appropriate. For example if the weather was very wet and everyone agreed that they did not want to do the day's walk, the guide can provide transport to a location to look around an abbey or castle. Your guide can also help in terms of understanding the best routes for the group’s interests and abilities. 10 Book now on +44 (0)7483 241 945 or visit www.highpointholidays.co.uk
