Gaft
A storytelling piece exploring the art of grafting: “the
act of inserting a piece of plant or animal in another
individual so as to come into organic union.” Graft
considers the human desire to gain control over nature
and its reproduction; the act of marriage and the
merging of Leith into the City of Edinburgh.
An interactive,

Rendition
JOHN MCPAKE AND THE SEA BEGGARS
“Extraordinary rendition” is the
transfer—without legal process—of
a detainee to the custody of a foreign
government for purposes of detention
and interrogation. Rendition uses
puppetry, soundscapes, object, shadow
and visual theatre to explore the
collusion between the CIA and the British
Government; the juxtaposition between
extreme vulnerability and absolute
power; and the story of the first suspect
to be taken into the CIA detention
programme. Regular performances
throughout the day from 2pm.
A first exploration in sound & vision
of Stuart Campbell’s Leith tale of
schizophrenic breakdown and Bruegel by
Tam Dean Burn.
Marcy loves Kanye West. In fact, she
would like to be Kanye West. What Would
Kanye Do? follows the fantasies and fears
of aspiring rapper Marcy as she struggles to
justify her irrational love for a divisive rap star.

Ludens Ensemble
LOVE
Ludens Ensemble is a theatre group based in Edinburgh,
working with multi-media. Our work has toured in Scotland,
China, Germany and Cyprus. At the Hidden Door Festival
2017, we are presenting our new performance ‘Love’ based
on William Shakespeare’s ‘Sonnets’. Through the incorporation
of digital technologies like mapping projections and live video
snippets along with the use of puppetry, objects and an accompanying
DJ set, we will present an audio-visual adaptation of Shakespeare’s
poetry for the stage. Expect lyricism in tandem with raw emotions.
