DHT: IT DOESNT STAND FOR "Doing Hair Terrific"

Dihydrotestosterone or DHT is one of the leading causes of hair loss in the world. Many people have not heard of it. Our bodies are very familiar with this aggressive androgen that causes havoc to our scalp.
Testosterone enters the liver and converts to DHT as it exits the liver. Upon the exit of the liver it floats through the bloodstream. The more your testosterone increases, so will the DHT. If left untreated balding will occur
DHT does not just swim and have a good time in your body. It is looking for a partner to possibly share its life with. What better place than your scalp?
DHT rests on the inner dermal layer and surounds the root. As the hair grows out it takes a ride on the hair strand eventually makes its way on to your scalp.
Pollution, hair products and-dead skin cells attaches on to the DHT and makes a thick, plaque-like substance that blocks the hair follicle and root so that the hair does not grow out full.
The hair grow out thinner and thinner until the hair will no longer grow. The scalp in it's entirety or a section will have a shiny covering. At that point the chances of hair growing back is very slim.
There are many products that are available on the market that help in the removal of DHT. Rogaine is a popular and familiar product. I'm not a fan of it because it contains minoxidil. When you discontinue using the product your hair slowly reverts
back to the way it was prior to using Rogaine.
My favorite products are Nioxin or Bosley. Both products are great because it does not contain minoxidil so when your hair grows back in you can slowly wean your hair off the product and use another shampoo. Micodermabrasion treatments are great too. This treatment is just like a facial but it is specifically designed for your scalp. It helps sloughs off all the dead skin and cells on the scalp. Of course each person will have individual results, so it is best to consult with your stylist before choosing which product is right for you.
A healthy scalp is the only way to have healthy hair. Everything starts with a good foundation. #TheMoreYouKnow
