Mitosis to a Wedding

Mitosis is somewhat similar to a wedding because of its different stages. The first stage in mitosis is prophase which is similar to the wedding preparation. During the early stages of prophase the nucleolus begins to break apart, and the chromosomes are not visible. In the middle stage, the nucleolus completely disappears and the chromosomes are visible. The nuclear membrane begins to breakdown, and the centrioles begin to move towards opposite poles of the cell (in animal cells). Later on, the chromosomes are replicated and recognizable, they become chromatid. Also the nuclear membrane is completely gone. In a wedding they have to get the ceremony prepared for the couple to be wed. They throw out ideas and form new ones just like prophase does.

The second phase of mitosis is metaphase. During metaphase the chromosomes move towards the center of the cell. The centromere then attaches itself to a separate spindle fiber near the “equator” of the cell. Then the chromatids face any direction. This phase of mitosis is similar to the wedding ceremony. The bride and groom move towards the center aisle for the ceremony to begin. Just like the chromosomes moving to the center of the cell.

Following metaphase is anaphase. In anaphase

chromatids seperate and each pair get pulled to

each of the poles in the cell. In an animal cell, the

cell membrane begins to pinch in the center of the

cell. In plants, the cell plate starts to appear midway

through the cell. This occurs when golgi bodies are

formed and it becomes the membrane of the new

cells. This stage is like the wedding reception. The

dancing starts midway through the party when more

guests arrive. This is like the membrane pinching

towards the center and the plates appearing midway

through the cell.

The final phase of mitosis is telophase. During

telophase the nucleolus begins to reappear and

a nuclear membrane starts to form around them.

The chromosomes start to lose their distinct form and become chromatin. Also the centrioles replicate. The final stage is similar to the end of the wedding party when you clean up. People throw things in the trash, sweep the floor from confetti and food, and store things away. They restore the building back to its original form or make their backyard look like a regular backyard. Just like the nucleolus reappearing and how chromosomes go back to chromatin.

Many aspects of a wedding can be compared to the phases of mitosis. From the start where things are changed, to the middle where everything is set, and to the end where everything is placed back. Mitosis is a long process that takes a lot of steps. Always remember that theses phases are happening to you right now, in you scratches, cuts, or under your dead skin cells.
