They say the plague was a blessing in disguise. They got powers and the rest of the world were condemned to die. Well, I say I’m just lucky to be alive, along with the few others who were healed by them. I kept my head down. We all felt forever indebted to them, all but one.
“They cursed me,” he told me, “My parents were dying but they refused to save them. I watched the life leave their pallid faces. I’m going to kill them all one day.”
That was the first encounter I ever had with him. After that, I knew it was best to stay away from that kid. People like that were bound to get themselves killed.
I tried to let him pass from my mind but I kept hearing about him. One day I came across him yelling on a street corner. That kid is really going to get himself in some trouble one day, I thought. I stood and listened.
“They think they’re so superior. What does that make us? Inferior?” he roared. After that, they became known as the Inferiors, a force to be reckoned with.
I watched as the Inferiors marched on toward the Superiors capital. Of course, he led the way. What they lacked in abilities they sure made up in numbers. I didn’t even know there were this many people who hated the Superiors.
As he passed, he caught my eye. Anger burned in his as he stopped the crowd and walked toward me.
“Are you not going to join us?” he said with a sneer. I stayed silent and held his gaze. He laughed, “Don’t tell me you actually are with those monsters.” I swallowed and took a deep breath.
“They saved me when I was dying. They saved you too, last I recall.” I said looking him straight in the eye. I didn’t even see the punch coming.
After the first one, I couldn’t block the next and the next and the next. As the blows kept coming, I felt my dignity slowly crumble. When he stopped, I couldn’t bring myself to look him in the eye. He stayed quiet for a few seconds, breathing hard. When he finally spoke, his voice was full of anger.
“They didn’t save me. They healed me when I all I wanted to do was die. They told me I could live out the rest of my life. But I knew that any life without my parents wasn’t worth living.” he spat. He reached down and pulled me up roughly. He shoved a gun in my hands and pushed me towards the crowd. “If you know what’s good for you, I would get in line.” he said
