As we embark upon the Spring semester , the countdown to graduation is well underway for our seniors and their families ! The Class of 2017 will soon join the coveted ranks our legacy alumni , while they begin to prepare to welcome a new family into their lives — their acceptance into college , or for some to serve proudly in our military .
In the same breath the Holy Season of Lent is also upon us . Lent provides us a time to reflect , to pray , and to take action while we prepare for the resurrection of Jesus Christ . It ’ s ironic how the Holy season and academic milestone of graduation parallels the ideas of rebirth , rejuvenation , renewal , resurrection , and regrowth . In fact , over the last seven months in my day-to-day responsibilities at PJP , these “ ideas ” have continuously helped me envision how we need to collectively celebrate our past while we embrace the future .
LEGACY HALL OF FAME In an effort to fully become one community , we invite you to learn more about these exciting new initiatives that we hope will become your traditions . The Inaugural Legacy Hall of Fame will recognize and honor the accomplishments and achievements of our Pope John Paul II Community and Legacy Schools who made distinguished contributions to society through their commitment in academics / careers , athletics , cultural / performing arts , and military / public service . I encourage you to nominate an individual that made a significant impact who is deserving of this honor . Please refer to the enclosed nomination form and criteria .
CLASSIC LEGACY SANDLOT GAME I invite our legacy alumni to participate in our first-ever Classic Legacy Sandlot Game ! It doesn ’ t matter how old you are or whether you have any athletic talent . What a wonderful way to welcome Kennedy- Kenrick and St . Pius X home to campus for a fun filled bragging rights sandlot softball game against one another . Wear your throw back high school jersey ; enjoy food and beverages while reminiscing of those Glory Days . After a few innings of fun competition , Advil , oxygen , and Bengay we will combine our legacy schools together to challenge our PJP varsity baseball / softball teams for the ultimate challenge — Winner of the Presidential Legacy Cup ? We will invite former Kennedy Kenrick and Pius X Presidents to participate as well as present the victors the Legacy Cup . YOUR SUPPORT It is important to thank you for all the support you have continued to provide PJP , especially in my first year as President . Our primary goal is to strive to increase our enrollment . Whether you are talking about your positive experiences while at our school , or wearing some gear with your legacy school and PJP ’ s name on it , you are helping us spread the story of the uniqueness we encompass here PJPII . This year many of you have also contributed to our Annual Appeal — The John Paul Fund — which has in turn provided the opportunity for our students to share in that experience . If you have not participated in our Annual Appeal , it is my hope that you will consider doing so as it will have a significant impact on the much needed financial aid and facility enhancements . Our auditorium sound system has needed an overhaul and progress is being made . We have made the necessary investment to allow for a mesmerizing effect on our top notch performing arts program , compelling liturgies and various other events held in the facility . Moreover , we have offered more academic scholarships this year ( 46 ) than any other year since our opening . Your trust and belief in the direction PJP is heading will have a positive impact on our future .
In closing , we continue to celebrate members of our community each and every day when we learn about your news and accomplishments in addition to what we share with you in these monthly newsletters . Through our new redesigned website , social media outlets , specifically Facebook and Twitter , we continually update and share our school ’ s successes . Whether it is one of our athletic teams winning a contest or participating in a post season exhibition or an individual student ’ s or alumni ’ s individual accomplishment ; we want to celebrate YOU !
