STEM Activities Mr S Brooks 6 Heritage students have been given the opportunity to become STEM ambassadors through their involvement in a number of after-school activities to promote the forthcoming mission of Tim Peake aboard the international space station. The first two evening events took place at Barlborough Primary School. Teacher of Science, Mr Brooks, gave an interesting talk about forces in relation to space rockets, which was followed up by students from Barlborough Primary building their own rockets and then launching them using an air cannon. The rocket launching took on quite a competitive edge, as each student hoped to achieve the biggest height from their launch. At both Barlborough events, the enthusiastic primary students were ably assisted by the 6 Heritage STEM ambassadors and Lead Technician, Mrs K Capps. A stargazing evening took place on 30 November at Heritage. This science extravaganza included a presentation from the Heritage STEM ambassadors, a talk by expert astronomer Dennis Ashton, stargazing with real telescopes, a visit into a planetarium, and the chance to build your very own space buggy!
