Year 10 BTEC students
dance their way to success
Mrs McKee, Deputy Faculty Leader for Performance
It‟s been a really busy term for the Year 10 BTEC Dance
students. As well as concentrating on the demands of their
coursework they have managed to go the extra mile and put
on two stunning performances.
On Tuesday, 25th February they performed two routines at
the Secondary Schools Dance Festival at the Winding Wheel
in Chesterfield. The two performances, based on a Jazz
theme, were showstoppers, especially their interpretation of
Chicago‟s „Cell Block Tango‟. An amazing experience for the
students and their parents/carers.
As part of their BTEC coursework students are required to
organise and take part in a performance event.
Our BTEC dancers chose to plan and organise the Annual Primary
Dance Festival around a theme of different dance styles which
starred over 200 Year 3 to Year 5 primary children from Clowne
Junior School, Creswell Infant School, Barlborough Primary School
and Whitwell Primary School. The Year 10 BTEC dancers
performed 6 routines themselves.
Battle of the Bands
Mrs Davey-Caines, Subject Leader for Music
On 4th March Heritage High School took part in a Battle of Bands
contest organised by students at Tupton Hall School, with all money
raised going to the Derbyshire Air Ambulance.
Bands from five schools took part celebrating their musical skills and
audiences were wowed by cover versions and original songs, written
by the students themselves.
Sundown Saturday, a band formed during the recent Rock School
Project here at Heritage took to the stage first to start the evening off
with a fantastic original song „Bombs’ and a cover of Coldplay‟s
„Yellow’. They received fantastic feedback on their performances and
helped to raise over £500 for the charity.
Well done Sundown Saturday – Mollie Ward, Bridie Hadfield, Brandon
Thomas and Daniel Nolan.
Rock School
After the success of the Rock School Project last year Heritage High School
was very lucky to be able to take part again. Four bands were formed, with
students from Years 9-11, and for over 5 weeks worked on writing and
performing their own song. An eclectic mix of sounds, from heavy rock to
acoustic pop, the bands received specialist help from the project musicians in
creating their sound.
After months of planning and rehearsing the show took place on
Tuesday, 18th March and we were delighted to welcome so many
parents/carers and younger brothers and sisters into school for the
performance. The primary school dancers were real stars and
entertained us with a varied programme of dance styles including
Bollywood, Irish dancing, street dance and freestyle. The standard
of the performances was outstanding with lots of confident dance
ideas. Our heartfelt thanks go to the primary school children and
their teachers for all their hard work, dedication and support.
The project culminated with a performance at lunchtime and due to the success
they will be performing again later in the term. Wa F6
