Heritage High School Spring Newsletter 2018 Term 3 | Page 2

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s) / Staff / Students and Friends of the School I write as we approach the end of term 3, the mid-point in this academic year and it’s hard to see where the time has gone. On reflection it’s clear that the youngest of our students have settled well and are very much part of our community. Others are progressing well throughout the school and for our most senior students it is a time of reckoning as they approach the final weeks of compulsory education. The vast majority of our senior students are working hard as they approach what is a critical stage in their lives. Progress and Attainment are high in their minds and those of their teachers. Our tracking systems show that many are set to do well relative to their starting points and the gap in the rates of achievement and progress between students from more disadvantaged homes compared to others is narrowing which is a central feature of what the school is seeking to achieve. We aspire to raise the standard of achievement for all our students and believe that upward pressure on rates of achievement for our most able and those who are particularly challenged will serve all our students well. Whilst the targets we set are reported to be challenging many are achieving them and they are having the effect of driving up expectations. A measure of the engagement of many Year 11 students is the increase in attendance to our after-school clubs and intervention support sessions run by most subject faculties at the school. I am grateful to the staff who are freely giving of their time to support our students to achieve. I am also thankful to the many parents/carers of these students who have supported and encouraged their sons and daughters over the years and was pleased to see an increased parental attendance at the last Year 11 Subject Consultation Evening last week; their involvement critically makes the difference for many of our students. advice and Health and Safety.
