NOTHING FLASHY- JUST OLD-SCHOOL BLUE-COLLAR GRIND IT OUT AND FIGHT

Boles Hornets football starts with head coach Jawny Cannon who has been in the top coaching spot for the Hornets for five seasons in what has been a long journey climbing to that spot.
This is actually Cannon’ s second coaching stint with the Hornets. He had a previous three-year run with the team as an assistant coach and started off as an assistant during his second go-round with the team before finally getting the top job.
During that time, Cannon has also been able to gain wisdom and experience from various mentors, such as Todd Wallace who is the current head coach of the Quinlan Ford Panthers.
Cannon credits much of his coaching style and approach to the game to the knowledge passed down by mentors like Wallace. Also like Wallace, Cannon has remained very loyal to the Boles community and is grateful for the time he has been able to put in with the student athletes.
Cannon said he isn’ t just trying to prepare the kids for the coming season but is also trying to prepare his players for a successful life.
In order to do so at this stage, Cannon adopted many of Wallace’ s coaching philosophies in terms of consistency and being more prepared than those on the opposing sideline.
However, Cannon added a new layer to his coaching style in the fact that he wants his team to attack the game and their lives with an“ unrelenting” mentality.
“ We want to fly to the football, get every rep and attack. When they’ re here we push them as hard as we can push them,” Cannon said.
“ I went to school here, so I know a lot of the history and a lot of the people,” Cannon said.“ Around here it’ s different, it’ s home, I lived in the same place for most of my life so I see it as a privilege. They see what I do with kids and it’ s just a privilege.”
