As its name suggests, an external hemorrhoid is found outside of the anal canal.
It appears much like a hard lump that seems to pop out of the anus. This is due
to the clotting of blood within the inflamed veins.
The symptoms of an external hemorrhoid include:
• severe pain in and around the anus
• extreme itching
• rectal swelling
• the appearance of a purple or bluish lump protruding from the anus
• a burning sensation
• bleeding

Although extremely common, hemorrhoids should never be taken lightly. Most
resolve themselves over time; but some may be a cause for concern and need to
be dealt with by a medical expert.
