COVID-19 : MONACO CONDUCTS LARGEST STUDY OF ALTERNATIVE TESTS
Health authorities in Monaco are currently testing the reliability of two new oral tests , considered easier and less unpleasant than nasopharyngeal swabs , at the Espace Léo Ferré . The study is called ‘ Cordages ’ and is being carried out with 1,500 volunteer adult patients who are symptomatic or have come into contact with someone who is . This is the largest study ever made regarding alternative tests , with results expected within 6 to 9 months . The first sample is analysed in thirty minutes by a mini-laboratory , developed by the Monegasque company Stark . The company has a patent to discover oral cancer and they applied it for the detection of viral antigens . This technique is currently being used in Italy by the army and public hospitals . The second sample is analysed at the Scientific Centre using the PCR amplification technique .
ANOTHER ATHLETICS WORLD RECORD IN MONACO ’ S RUN 2021
Breaking the world record in the 5 km road race on February , 14 by running in 14:43 was ‘ in the crystal ball ’ as the organizers had already boldly announced that 2021 was going to be another year of records . You just had to guess who . This time not Joshua Cheptegei , but Béatrice Chepkoech , 29-years-old who broke the world record even with high winds swirling around her . Chepkoech ’ s 14:43 thus easily bettered the 14 min 48 achieved by her compatriot Caroline Kipkirui in 2018 . The previous world record had already been achieved , yet again in Monaco ; it was in 2019 and just one second slower — though slow is not a word that should describe that achievement . The performance of 14 minutes and 44 seconds was achieved by the Dutch lady Sifan Hassan .

POLICE STATISTICS : CRIME IN MONACO IS DOWN BY 20 %
Crime in Monaco decreased by 20 % in 2020 , according to recent Police reports . Police Commissioner Richard Marangoni had a bit of good news to share with the press when he presented the 2020 Police statistics at the Oceanographic Museum on 16 February . Overall , crime declined by 19 % compared with 2019 ( with 712 incidents versus 889 ). Street crime declined by 33 % ( with 60 incidents compared with 90 ).
