44TH INTERNATIONAL CIRCUS FESTIVAL OF MONTE-CARLO:
A TRUE PILLAR OF MONEGASQUE HERITAGE

Each January, the Principality is ready to
raise the curtain for a substantial show
on a global scale. The International Circus
Festival of Monte-Carlo, with its 44th edition
has caught media and audience attention
for its entire duration, from the 16th until the
26th January 2020. Thanks to the enthusiasm
of H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, taking
over the Presidency of the kermesse, and of
the artistic director, Urs Pilz, the festival has a
first-class reputation among major professionals
in this field. An extremely difficult task in
this 2020 edition for the jury was to select the
best presentations to award with the Golden,
Silver and Bronze Clown prizes. The Festival
was characterized by 150 top performers coming
from eighteen countries. This year the Knie
family (Ivan Frederick Knie, Maicol and Wioris
Errani) ran away with the Golden Clown, in recognition
for their work with their wonderfully
cared-for horses. Two other Golden Clowns
were awarded for jaw-dropping daredevil acts:
the acrobats Martinez Brothers and the flying
trapeze artists Les Tuniziani.

16 по 26 января состоялся очередной, уже
44-й по счету Международный цирковой
фестиваль Монте-Карло. Благодаря энтузиазму
принцессы Стефании, взявшей на себя
управление этим непростым мероприяти-
ем, и художественного руководителя Урса
Пилза фестиваль имеет первоклассную репутацию
среди профессионалов циркового
искусства. В 2020 году участие в цирковом
фестивале Монте-Карло приняли 150 артистов
из 18 стран, и перед жюри встала
сложнейшая задача — выбрать из их числа
наиболее достойных. В итоге одна статуэтка
«Золотого клоуна» была вручена представителям
Швейцарского национального
цирка Кни (Иван Фредерик Кни, Майкол и
Виорис Эррани) в знак признания их блестящей
работы с лошадьми. Двумя другими
«Золотыми клоунами» члены жюри отметили
потрясающие выступления акробатов
братьев Мартинесов и воздушных гимнастов
на трапеции Тунициани.

AND ENDURANCE TEST

Not only is the Monte-Carlo Rally a breathtaking show featuring
the world’s leading pilots, but it is also the most
prestigious opening competition of the WRC Sеries FIA
(World Rally Championship). The Rally’s 88th edition was held
in Monaco on January 20–26, 2020. The following important
changes were introduced to the race’s format, organized by the
Automobile Club of Monaco. Firstly, a 25 % track modification has
been implemented. Secondly, before the official start on January
23, the racers were invited to take part in a trial 3.35 kilometer
shakedown session from January 20 to 22. The race took place
at Route de la Garde in Gap, the rally’s partner for the 7th consecutive
year. On the final race day, Thierry Neuville and Nicholas
Gilsoul (Hyundai i20) did their very best bringing their team the
victory in this prestigious Monte-Carlo Rally. Sebastién Ogier and
his partner Julien Ingrassia finished 2nd, with a 12.6 seconds
