Spotlight on Matthew
Romero, Board Member
What is your favorite city that you have ever
visited and why?
New York, New York is my favorite city to visit for
several reasons. My wife, Dorothy, is originally from
New York and it’s fun for my kids to spend time with
their extended family. I love the architecture in NYC,
most notably the Chrysler building. I especially love
wandering through the different parts of the city
and seeing how people and culture mesh together.
What’s something that amazes you?
What schools did you attend?
Daniel Fernandez Elementary - Los Lunas, NM
Vista Hills ES – El Paso, TX
Desert View Junior High – El Paso TX
J.M. Hanks High School – El Paso, TX
University of Texas, BS/Architecture – Austin, TX
St. Edwards University, MBA – Austin, TX
I am continually amazed by God’s loving direction
and guidance in my life and by our community’s
connection to the school district. Faith organizations,
businesses and civic groups step up repeatedly to
enrich the lives of our students. At board meetings,
I always enjoy the opportunity to recognize
contributions that groups have made to our schools.
I am especially proud of the work my church, First
United Methodist of Hurst, does as an adopter for
Bellaire Elementary, Harrison Lane Elementary,
and Hurst Junior High.
Give us a brief bio of your career.
Can you share one quote or saying that you
love, that keeps you going in life?
“Be Prepared” (The Boy Scout Motto, not the song
from Lion King)
What would be a perfect afternoon for you?
A perfect afternoon would include a drive out to
the lake and a nice lunch on the deck with the
family, followed by going to a classic car show or
driving my ‘vette a few fast laps around the track.
