Once you find a waterhole, it is only a small puddle of muddy water that is contaminated in bacteria, dead animals and vegetation and human waste. You are faced with a decision: to risk your family’s health of getting very sick from multiple water borne diseases, or the alternative of dying from dehydration. You then have to walk back 7 km carrying a heavy container on your head, and you struggle on home with shooting pain down your neck and back, struggling over the uneven terrain.

Testimony

“Before Heavy Water, the the pressure of carrying water created spinal, head and neck pain, and severe injuries, and many people, including children, used to die of dysentery, diarrhoea and cholera because of drinking dirty water," Abri explains. Abri and other women in Tanzania now have the ease of carrying water, and the water filter has access to clean water meaning there is not as much sickness.
