Rohini Bala Chandran receives NSF Career Award
LU-VE Group subsidiary completes acquisition of Italia Wanbao-ACC Srl
Rohini Bala Chandran , Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering , has received a 2022 NSF CAREER Award to characterize , model , and measure radiative energy transport under varying conditions . Her proposal , titled “ Understanding Radiative Transport in Flowing and Reactive Participating Media with Integrated Models and Measurements ,” seeks to develop and deploy predictive models integrated with experimental measurements to establish a more fundamental and holistic understanding of flowradiation-reaction interactions in various thermal and solar energy systems .
Dr . Bala Chandran ’ s proposal will focus specifically on dynamic systems which involve radiative energy transport in flowing and reactive particles . Particle flow systems , for instance , due to gravity inside a channel or fluidization of solids , result in continually evolving spatial distributions of particles within the channel , which impacts how radiation will interact with these particles . Chemical reactions , too , can affect size , shape , particle concentration , and properties of a material . All of these factors can influence absorption , emission , and scattering mechanisms for radiative transport . These variables , therefore , make developing models of radiative transport significantly challenging .
LU-VE Group has announced that the contract for the sale of the Italia Wanbao-ACC S . r . l . company branch to SEST S . p . A ., 100 % controlled by LU-VE Group , was signed , following the submission by SEST on 31 January 2022 of a binding purchase offer . The production site will be converted in order to expand the production of static heat exchangers for refrigerated cabinets , air conditioning , chillers and heat pumps , already manufactured by LU-VE Group in the Limana ( Belluno ) factory , headquarters of its subsidiary SEST S . p . A , as well as in other Group plants .
The operation involved the hiring of 150 workers of the ACC workforce . For 40 of these , the secondment from ACC to SEST had already taken place and they are in position at the latter . The remaining 110 will be taken on by June 2024 in staggered groups of the same size ( 30 workers every six months and the last 20 hires expected in the first half of 2024 ). The minimum reserve quota for protected categories will be respected and the conventional seniority gained in service at ACC will be recognized . The total planned investment is EUR 8.95M , which includes the purchase of the premises .
