Skeleton and Siemens agree on strategic partnership
SMR company NuScale pivots from development to delivery
Americold opens new freezer-storage facility
NuScale Power has announced that it is making a strategic shift from product development to product delivery as commercialisation of its VOYGR small modular reactor ( SMR ) power plants approaches . The Portland , Oregon-based company is setting up the VOYGR Services and Delivery business unit which it says will be dedicated to working with customers and tasked with the delivery of services and equipment associated with the sale , development , delivery , and commercial operation of VOYGR power plants . In May , NuScale Power merged with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp to become the world ’ s first publicly traded company focused on the design and deployment of SMR technology said that development , together with the newly announced strategic shift , will “ bolster and accelerate ” commercialisation of its technology . Customer-centric restructuring is also a critical step in preparing to scale and meet rapidly growing global demand , the company added . The placement of longlead equipment orders for Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems ’ ( UAMPS ) Carbon Free Power Project - a six-unit VOYGR plant which is to be built at a site at Idaho National Laboratory - plus “ landmark customer engagements ” in Poland and Romania “ underscore the need for a proactive restructuring to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of NuScale ’ s contractual obligations for customer projects ,” it said .
Skeleton Technologies and Siemens have agreed on a far-reaching technology partnership for the development , planning and implementation of a fully automated , digital manufacturing technology for the production of supercapacitors in Germany . The production line is to be used in a new Skeleton factory in Markranstädt , Leipzig and will help to reduce production costs by around 90 percent within the five-year project . The collaboration aims to achieve the digitization of Skeleton ’ s entire value chain – from supercapacitor cell design to production and services – and expand to the production of next-generation supercapacitors . Siemens supports this with its comprehensive Digital Enterprise portfolio as well as domain know-how in the area of industrial battery cell production . Furthermore , it is planned to further expand the
business relations between the two companies . Skeleton ’ s supercapacitors are used in automotive , transport , grid and industrial applications and allow to reduce CO2 emissions and save energy . With the use of patented “ curved graphene ” material , Skeleton ’ s supercapacitors offer the highest power density on the market , almost instant charging and discharging , high reliability , and very long lifetimes . They contribute to improving power quality and protecting equipment and infrastructure by lowering the power fluctuation , and to powering electrification . The new factory for the next generation of supercapacitor cells in Markranstädt is scheduled to start production in 2024 and produce up to twelve million cells a year . It will be built in two phases , with the second one to be completed in 2025 .
Government funding for Ineos green-H2 feasibility study
Americold Realty Trust ( COLD ) has announced the grand opening of its newest facility in Dunkirk , NY . With 181,000 square feet of cold storage and operational space , this LEEDcertified facility features 25,000 pallet positions , to support cold storage needs in the western New York region . The new facility , which is holding grand opening ceremonies , is located on Williams Street , near Arrowhead Drive in Dunkirk , and is the most recent addition to the company ’ s portfolio of 250 locations around the globe . This facility will employ more than 60 full and parttime associates . As part of Americold ’ s commitment to give back to the local
communities it serves , Americold and Feed the Children will distribute 25-pound boxes of food and 15-pound boxes of essentials items to more than 300 Dunkirk families , immediately following the grand opening ceremony . Americold has been a partner of Feed the Children for more than five years . During its partnership , Americold has donated critical funds , and travelled hundreds of thousands of miles providing complimentary temperature-controlled transportation services of chilled and frozen goods that have helped feed hundreds of thousands of families across America .
Ineos ( London ) has announced that the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia has confirmed EUR 770,000 funding to support a feasibility study for the construction of a 100-megawatt water electrolysis plant for the production of green hydrogen at the INEOS site in Köln . Ineos plans to build and operate a new green hydrogen plant at the site , as part of its EUR 2bn package of green hydrogen projects across Europe announced in October last year . The project at the Köln site alone could lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of over 100,000 tons per year . The feasibility study will investigate
how the green hydrogen production plant can be efficiently implemented at the Ineos Verbund site . The support from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia will cover a quarter of the eligible costs for carrying out the study . The hydrogen produced in the new plant using only renewable energy is to be used directly in the ammonia production plant at the site and , potentially in the future , for the production of methanol . The climate-neutral production could also cover hydrogen needs in the Chempark and beyond , including regional transport .
