Copeland receives grant from U . S . DOE for heat pump innovation
Earlier this week , the Honorable Jennifer M . Granholm , Secretary
of the U . S . Department of Energy ( DOE ), traveled to Sidney , Ohio to
visit Copeland , a global provider of sustainable climate solutions . The Miami Valley region serves as the company ’ s Americas innovation hub . During the visit , Secretary Granholm awarded the organization a grant to support a USD 2.5M project to research and develop innovative heat pump technology for heating , ventilation , and air conditioning ( HVAC ) systems . The grant will fund the research and development of a modular , plug-and-play , load-flexible heat pump with low-cost thermal energy storage ( TES ) for space conditioning and water heating . This innovation has the potential to provide significant cost savings for consumers during HVAC installations and drastic reductions in energy usage .
Secretary Granholm ' s visit and the DOE grant marks a significant milestone in Copeland ' s journey to advance the next generation of climate technologies . The HVAC and refrigeration industry leader ' s efforts in advancing sustainability and enabling global decarbonization are aligned with President Biden ' s Investing in America agenda and the Biden- Harris Administration ' s efforts to build an equitable clean energy future . During her visit , the Secretary and her colleagues toured Copeland ' s Sidney facilities , where the latest innovations in heat pump technology and the next generation of sustainable heating , air conditioning , and refrigeration products were showcased .
MTU Aero Engines chooses GT-SUITE
Gamma Technologies ( GT ), a global leader and innovator in multi-physics system simulation software , to welcome MTU Aero Engines ( MTU ), a leader in the quest for emissions-free aviation , as one of its latest clients . MTU selected GT-SUITE as one of its tools for thermodynamic simulation of important components for its Water-Enhanced Turbofan ( WET ), which reduces contrails and CO2 and NOx emissions . By 2035 , when powered by sustainable aviation fuel ( SAF ) or hydrogen , a WET based engine could reduce the climate impact of an aircraft by about 80 % compared to a gas turbine engine from the year 2000 — making it virtually climate neutral . The WET propulsion concept uses residual heat from the exhaust to achieve a steam generator to vaporize water , which is then injected into the combustor . The water for this is extracted from the exhaust gas by means of a condenser and then separated ; GT-SUITE helps to simulate the complex heat exchanges from this operation .
Vitherm awarded another order for oil & gas plant in USA Cargo Consolidators achievement with air-cooled heat exchangers
Vitherm recently clinched an order for the supply of a C276 heat exchanger in the USA . This client is a renowned oil and gas company that has utilized Vitherm ’ s plate heat exchangers . In the Alkylation unit , there are a few fractionation columns . Hence energy recovery is crucial to maximize efficiency . One way to achieve these objectives is by using Vitherm welded plate heat exchangers in the preheating process of alkylate products . Cargo Consolidators Agency Ltd . has recently undertaken a role in facilitating an urgent freight shipment for a time-sensitive plant turnaround . The objective of this shipment was to arrange coordination , clearance , and delivery of the shipment within a challenging time frame . The Cargo Consolidators team took charge of various responsibilities , including coordinating the pick-up from the supplier , securing bookings with the nominated shipping line , coordinating with the port and customs for direct delivery , clearance with the brokers , and securing delivery to the site via the nominated haulers .
Due to the size of the freight special arrangements , including police escorts , transport details were communicated via newspaper advertisements through the Municipal Corporations to ensure a smooth journey . According to the readiness of the freight , the shipment was divided into four ( 4 ) parts . The total piece comprised 13 Air Cooled Heat exchangers and 23 crates of accessories . The transportation convoy included : 13 heavy duty extendable rear steer lowboy trailers for the air cooled heat exchangers ; and 6 light duty tractor truck , flatbed for the accessories .
