WarmtelinQ and Vattenfall reach construction milestone in Leiden
Great British Energy backs Naked Energy
WarmtelinQ and Vattenfall have reached a new milestone in the development of a heat transfer station near Leiden in the Netherlands, with the highest point of the station’ s heat buffer now completed. The facility, known as Vattenfall’ s“ De Sleutel” heat transfer station, will form an important link between Gasunie’ s WarmtelinQ regional heat network and Leiden’ s local district heating system. The project is designed to transport waste heat from industrial processes in the port of Rotterdam to cities across Zuid-Holland. WarmtelinQ will carry heated water through a closed pipeline system to the transfer station, where a heat exchanger will transfer thermal energy to the local heating network without mixing the two water streams. The broader WarmtelinQ network is expected to provide waste heat for around 120,000 homes and businesses across the
province. According to project representatives, the system could reduce natural gas consumption by approximately 110 million cubic metres annually and cut carbon emissions by around 180,000 tonnes per year. The Leiden installation will also incorporate Vattenfall’ s peak and backup facilities, including a boiler house and large heat storage tank. These systems are intended to provide additional capacity during periods of exceptionally high demand and maintain heat supply during maintenance or outages. Project Manager Roelof Zeijlemaker said the heat transfer station represents a key connection between the industrial heat source, regional infrastructure and local customers. The construction milestone brings WarmtelinQ closer to establishing a more integrated and lower-carbon heat supply for Leiden and the wider Zuid-Holland region.
Great British Energy and Barclays Climate Ventures have announced a combined GBP 8.875M investment in Naked Energy, a British renewableheat technology company whose solar-thermal systems are already cutting bills and reducing the use of gas at some of the UK’ s most iconic institutions, including the British Library and the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon. The funding round is led by Great British Energy, which is investing GBP 7.5M through its Energy Engineered in the UK programme, with Barclays Climate Ventures participating as an existing shareholder. The combined investment will support Naked
Energy’ s plans to establish a new UK-based manufacturing facility for its Virtu solar-thermal technology, creating up to 40 direct skilled jobs and around 100 indirect roles. In buildings across Britain, gas is still widely used for hot water, space heating and process heat. Cutting that reliance is one of the most important and challenging steps to reducing energy bills and strengthening the UK’ s energy security. Naked Energy’ s technology generates renewable heat directly at the point of use – reducing gas demand without adding pressure to the electricity grid and helping businesses keep their energy bills stable when gas prices spike.
Molex invests in CAEPlus
Molex, a global electronics leader and connectivity innovator, has announced a strategic investment in CAEPlus, Inc., an early-stage company focused on the development of active liquid cooling technology designed to help data centers manage increasing heat loads driven by AI and High-Performance Computing( HPC) workloads. This investment advances Molex’ s Data Center Thermal Management strategy by accelerating the innovation of CAEPlus’ BoundaryCool™ platform, a compact, active cooling architecture that addresses next gen GPU / ASIC thermal challenges. The strategic collaboration will support continued advancements across the BoundaryCool platform, engineered to deliver significantly higher heat transfer performance and greater reductions in CPU / GPU / TPU chip temperatures compared to passive cold plate
solutions while remaining compatible with legacy data center architectures. The addition of CAEPlus technology to Molex’ s comprehensive thermal management portfolio offers data center customers a broader range of solutions engineered to address the most demanding computing requirements. As part of the agreement, Molex retains exclusive licensing to apply CAEPlus technology to the Molex portfolio of pluggable I / O solutions. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.
