Testing capabilities cover both destructive and non-destructive examination. Depending on the applicable specification, these include air-underwater, eddy current, flaring, flattening, hardness, tensile, reverse bend and ultrasonic testing. Laboratory facilities also include spectrometers and microscopes for examining grain size, corrosion behaviour and microstructure. Hydrostatic testing is performed on every tube, while production sites are equipped for additional requirements including intergranular corrosion, eddy current and ultrasonic testing. Each plant has its own laboratory infrastructure, with testing conducted by appropriately trained and qualified personnel in accordance with HMT’ s Quality Assurance Manual. This quality infrastructure has helped HMT secure approvals from major inspection and certification organisations including ABS, Bureau Veritas, DNV, EIL, IBR, LRIS, Intertek, PDIL, SGS and TÜV, alongside approvals from numerous international and Indian end users, EPCs and equipment manufacturers.
Knowledge behind the machinery Although HMT has consistently invested in manufacturing equipment, Mr. Mathur points to another asset that cannot simply be purchased: experience.“ The high standard of technical competence of our staff is another factor that particularly stands out in our company,” he says. Many employees have built long careers within the organisation, allowing practical manufacturing knowledge to remain within the company and pass from one generation of engineers and technicians to the next.“ They possess not just technical degrees when necessary but also loyalty and commitment in addition to knowledge and expertise,” Mr. Mathur explains.“ Some of our staff members have been with us for fifteen or thirty years.” For a manufacturer serving critical applications, that continuity matters. At the same time, HMT continues to attract younger engineers who can develop alongside experienced personnel.“ Young engineers plead to work with us so they can develop their careers under our leadership,” says Mr. Mathur.“ They take great pride in helping to shape our success, and we in turn feel obligated and challenged to do the same.” The company’ s responsibilities towards its workforce extend to health, safety and environmental performance. HMT holds ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications.
From India to international markets While India remains HMT’ s largest market, its international footprint has grown considerably. Approximately three quarters of production is sold domestically, with the remaining share exported around the world. HMT products are supplied across the Middle East, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, as well as markets throughout Europe and the Americas. The company also serves customers in Asia-Pacific countries including Singapore, Australia, Japan and South Korea. Within the heat exchanger tubing market in particular, HMT has developed strong business in India, South Korea, Italy and North America, while equipment manufacturers in Gulf countries and Central and Eastern Europe remain important to its international strategy.“ Our clients greatly value the quality and services we offer, as evidenced by the numerous recurring orders we consistently receive,” Mr. Mathur says. Repeat business is especially significant in industries where qualification processes can be extensive and reliability is essential. HMT’ s combination of domestic scale and international reach reflects its long-term ambition: to manufacture in India while competing according to international technical and quality expectations.
A new chapter of expansion Recent developments demonstrate that HMT’ s manufacturing capabilities continue to evolve. In 2025, the company expanded its heavy-wall tube production at its Unit 3 facility, adding a 120-ton cold draw bench, pointing and swaging equipment, a 100 MTPD furnace and a shot blasting line. Ultrasonic testing systems across all three manufacturing units were upgraded to meet increasingly stringent customer requirements. Further investments included a 160-ton cold draw bench with induction pointing equipment at Unit 2 and an additional heavy pilger machine for the stainless steel division. In year 2025, at Unit-I Stainless Steel Plant, company installed“ Shot Peening” facility specially for SS Tubes. With this facility the Mechanical properties, Surface Integrity and Fatigue life will
