TerraPower submits application to build Natrium reactor
Natrium technology features a 345 MWe sodium-cooled fast reactor using high-assay low-enriched uranium fuel , with a molten saltbased energy storage system that can boost the system ’ s output
to 500 MWe for more than five and a half hours when needed . TerraPower plans to build the Natrium demonstration plant near a retiring coal facility at Kemmerer in Wyoming .
The company said it has been working closely with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission ( NRC ) in pre-application meetings and is confident in its application . The demonstration plant ’ s design means that non-nuclear construction will begin this summer , while nuclear construction will begin after the application has been approved , the company said . The completed demonstration project will be a fully functioning commercial power plant . The company is working to strengthen the advanced nuclear supply chain in North America , and in February announced a second round of contracts for long-lead suppliers to support the development of the Natrium reactor . The selected contractors were : GERB Vibration Control
Systems Inc to provide design and testing services , and supply seismic isolation equipment for the Natrium reactor support structure ; Thermal Engineering International ( USA ) Inc to design and fabricate the sodium-salt heat exchanger ; Hayward Tyler , Inc to provide design , fabrication , testing , and qualification for the primary and intermediate sodium pumps ; Framatome US Government Solutions LLC to design the ex-vessel fuel handling machine and bottom loading transfer cask ; and Teledyne Brown Engineering to provide the design , fabrication , and testing for the in-vessel transfer machine which will manipulate core components from within the reactor vessel during refuelling operations .
SECO / WARWICK increases manufacturing capacity in India
Chart to supply liquefaction equipment for Cedar LNG Project
SECO / WARWICK has opened a new production hall in India . This is another step in implementing the global expansion strategy , which aims to deliver the highest quality equipment for metal heat treatment to all continents . This year , the SECO / WARWICK ’ s company in India started the production of continuous lines for aluminum brazing and will soon deliver the first furnace to heat exchanger manufacturer – Narain Cooling Technologies . Ultimately , SECO / WARWICK India will also produce vacuum solutions , meeting the demand for these furnaces in this part
of the world . Last week , it held the official opening of a new production hall , which will significantly increase SECO / WARWICK ’ s efficiency in this region . The new plant has an area of 4,000 m 2 , the ceiling height is as much as 12 meters , and the hall is served by two overhead cranes with a lifting capacity of 15 tons . The SECO / WARWICK India location is strategic . The factory is located in a special economic zone , near Pune , where many industrial plants , which are potential SECO / WARWICK customers , are located .
Chart Industries , Inc . ( Chart ), a global solutions provider to clean energy and industrial gas markets has been chosen to supply critical liquefaction equipment , including the natural gas liquefaction cold boxes and brazed aluminum heat exchangers , to the Cedar liquefied natural gas ( LNG ) project . The Cedar LNG project brings together the Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corporation ( Pembina ) to develop the Haisla Nation-led project . The project is a key element of the Haisla Nation ’ s economic and social development strategy and will further advance reconciliation by allowing the Haisla Nation , for the first time ever , to directly
own and participate in a major industrial development in its territory . Today , the Haisla people are centered on Kitamaat Village . Home to approximately 700 of the 2,023 + Haisla membership , Kitamaat Village sits at the head of the Douglas Channel in British Columbia , Canada . Chart received the order for its content , from engineering , procurement , and construction ( EPC ) company Black & Veatch , a leader in the floating liquefied natural gas ( FLNG ) and a longstanding partner to Chart . This is one of a series of big LNG , FLNG , and small-scale LNG projects in recent quarters and years that Chart has won content .
Poland to build a new geothermal heating plant
Poland ’ s Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska recently signed an agreement for the construction of a geothermal heating plant in Turek , Greater Poland voivodeship . The heating plant , along with the drilling of a new absorption well GT-2 , is expected to cost over Polish
zloty 90M ( EUR 20M ), with funding from Poland ’ s National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management ( NFOŚiGW ) covering over Polish zloty 73M ( EUR 17M ). The obtained geothermal energy is estimated to satisfy around 40 % of the city ’ s heat demand
and help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and lower heating costs for residents . Currently , 60 % of the costs are emissions fees . The project includes three elements : drilling of the geothermal well Turek GT-2 – intake / discharge well , construction of a pipeline connecting the geothermal well
( production ) Turek GT-1 with the well ( intake ) Turek GT-2 , and the construction of a geothermal heating plant , utilising a heat exchanger and a heat pump . The heating plant is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 , Poland ’ s Climate and Ministry noted in a press release .
