ABB collaborates with GHI
Canada gov ’ t awards millions to ag-related climate change projects
ABB is collaborating with Green Hydrogen International ( GHI ) on a project to develop a major green hydrogen facility in south Texas . As part of the Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) ABB ’ s automation , electrification , and digital technology will be assessed for deployment at GHI ’ s Hydrogen City project . The Power-to-X facility will use solar and onshore wind energy to power a 2.2 GW electrolyzer plant to produce 280,000 tons of green hydrogen per year , which will be turned into one million tons of green ammonia annually . A 120 km pipeline to the nearby Corpus Christi energy port ,
approximately 300 km southwest of Houston , will transport the green hydrogen to an ammonia production facility for conversion and subsequent global export to serve demand in Europe and Asia . GHI is also in discussions with potential off takers of green hydrogen as a feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel and e-methane production . Construction is planned to start in 2026 with the first production expected in 2030 . Hydrogen City is being designed as a phased project , with plans to add additional trains of production as the market for green hydrogen develops .
The Trudeau government rolled out the latest round of Agricultural Clean Technology Program funding grants last month with 29 Ontario farms and agribusinesses awarded CAD 16.7M . Over 80 % of the most recently approved projects were located in Southwestern Ontario . The two biggest grants at CAD 2M each were for biogas technology upgrades — at Generate Upcycle London East Digester in London and at Stanton Farms in Ilderton . Five Eastern Ontario outfits also made the most recent cut : Greenwood Mushrooms
Development Corporation of Ashburn ( north of Whitby ) got almost CAD 425,000 to install heat exchangers ; Lakewinds Farm Ltd . of Beaverton ( west of Lindsay ) got more than CAD 440,000 to install a biomass boiler and heat exchanger ; Millspring Farms of Napanee and Midlee Farms of Osgoode both got close to CAD 600,000 for new grain dryers ; and multinational Ingredion in Cardinal got almost CAD 714,000 for a heat recovery system . Twenty-one Eastern Ontario outfits have received funding since the program ’ s inception .
