Last year she relocated: “I had
outgrown the space in the
London studio/shop and they
were doubling the rent. I had
also dreamt for years about
living outside of London and was
drawn to the music, culture, food
and lifestyle of Whitstable.”
As well as her business, Margo
teaches workshops at her studio,
has given talks and lessons at
colleges and universities around
the world and is the author
of ‘Contemporary Weaving
Patterns’ – a book designed to
inspire and inform handweavers.
In her Whitstable studio, working
on a 24-shaft dobby loom, Margo
designs and develops her fabric
ideas. Once ready, they are sent
to specialist mills in Scotland,
Suffolk, India or Italy for
industrial manufacture. Creating
a fabric takes time: “Sometimes
I will develop a fabric on the
handlooms for several years
before I am confident it is ready
for production,” she explains.
When the fabrics return they
are made into products. Today
her product range includes bed
linen, furniture, lampshades,
scarves, rugs and cushions. “We
introduce collections each year
but our products are timeless so
we don’t see them as having a
seasonal or trend-led lifespan.”
