Atomic, Congo, Dogstar, Suki, Blaze and
Nutcracker are six of the designs in the 14-piece
collection, which Margo recently exhibited at The
Royal Academy of Arts as part of ‘Crafted: Makers
of the Exceptional’ – a free showcase celebrating
the work of 37 of Britain’s talented craftmakers.
Each fabric has her trademark geometric style and
mixes fibres.
Weaving is one of the oldest forms of fabric
production. Using a loom two sets of threads – the
warp and the weft – are interlaced to produce a
cloth. When Margo first worked on a loom she
was taken with the process of the craft: “I have
quite a chaotic mind full of ideas bouncing off the
walls. I loved the boundaries of the warp/weft and
the discipline of the craft which helped to control
and make sense of all my ideas.”
After studying for a BA in Constructed Textile
Design at Chelsea College of Art and Design
(1996-9) and completing an MA in Constructed
Textiles at The Royal College of Art (1999-2001)
– specialising in woven textiles on both courses –
Margo launched her first collection in 2003, with
the help of a development award from The Craft
Council. In the same year she opened her studio/
shop in Bloomsbury.
