What You Need To Know About Golf

Some sports last forever. They don't require a vigorous amount of activity but still require skill. Golf is a sport that lasts with you right into your old age. The goal of golf is to, with golf clubs, hit a golfball into a hole at the end of the course. Each hole has a par. This is the number of shots you must sink the ball in to break even and keep an unchanged score. If you shoot under par, your score will drop which in the case of golf, is a good thing. If you shoot over par, your score willl increase and you will have to make up those lost points on later holes. The game begins with a tee off using your driver (That's the big one). From there, the ball will likely be hit on to the fairway where it is up to you to decide which club best suits the situation. You will be attempting to hit the ball onto the green. The green is where the hole is located. Made up of smooth grass, the green is designed for you to easily putt the ball into or around the hole using your putter.

Before beginning a game of golf, it is important to understand which clubs do what and when to use them.

-Driver: The driver is used for long shots off the tee. It is the longest club in the bag.

-Woods: Woods provide the distance needed on long shots from the fariway. Woods begin at 3 which have the lowest loft and go up to 9 which have the highest.

-Irons: Irons provide the accuracy that most woods cannot. However, they also have the distance needed for shots from the fairway. Irons also begin at 3 with the lowest loft and proceed to the pitching wedge which has the highest and is used for shots around the green.

-Hybrids: Hybrids combine the features of irons and woods along with added weight behind the club to help drive the ball.

-Putter: The putter is used for shots on the green where there is only a few feet between your ball and the hole.

You also need to know some basic rules about golf, as it is a sport that is to be played with etiquette.

-You are not allowed to take any action to move the ball from its position in which you hit it.

-You must play the ball as it lies (If your ball lands in a tree, you don't have a choice. Get up there.)

-Know your tee time. If you start early or later than what is scheduled you will mess up the whole system.

-You should never put your bag of clubs on the green, especially if it has a stand. The green is very delicate and it is very easy to puncture and destroy it with your bag.

-Your golf cart should follow the signs. Try to stay on the path as much as possible.
