Depression typically starts to appear in the adolescence of one's life. Initially, it's important to understand the stigma surrounding depression. This mental illness within teens is a hostile atmosphere and it is exactly why you never hear about it. They hide it! Teens fear the judgement that today's society consists of and really, who's to blame them? Friends are a huge part of coping with the symptoms of depression. Losing that part of your life to judgement is absolutely terrifying. Knowing the symptoms of depression can raise your awareness of the illness. With this , you may be able to fight that sigma that surrounds depression. A huge part of depression is social isolation. This may be one of the most important because, and although they may not realize it, having some sort of social aspect to your life is extremely helpful in making you forget all the terrible things that put you into that slump. Constant phrases that sound dark and miserable are a huge red flag in the case if depression. Even thoough it may sound like your typical joke, it could so easily be so much more than a laugh and a shake of the head. People with such an illness become so preoccupied with death that they don't realize the permanent effect. It's your job to become aware of these symptoms and fight the stigma. Let them know there are places for help; people for help. Completely destroy the idea that scares so many of us away.
