MYPLATE AND BENEFITS OF EXERCISING PRESENTATION
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension partnered with the the Zapata County ISD Child Nutrition Department to provide a MyPlate Symbol and Benefits of Exercising presentation to the elementary schools. MyPlate is a USDA food guidance system to promote dietary guidance for all Americans. MyPlate illustrates the five food groups that are the building blocks for a healthy diet using a familiar image - a place setting for a meal. Before you eat, think about what goes on your plate, in your cup, or in your bow. Students also learned about the importance of being physically active and why we should combine it with a healthy diet.
Elementary students also got a chance to experience the well liked smoothie bicycle and sample a banana, strawberry, and orange juice smoothie. The smoothie bike combines benefits of exercising and making a healthy snack at the same time.
