Youth Ambassadors

2017-2018

The Healthy South Texas Youth Ambassador Program aims to develop healthy lifestyle advocates to serve as a source of outreach and education out in the community. More specifically, the purpose is:

* Serve as a community health and wellness advocate

* Assist County Extension Agents in providing leadership to the youth components of Healthy South Texas

* Serve as a leader to implement the Health curricula in local schools

* Become knowledgeable and skilled in the Healthy Lifestyle subject matter

* Coordinate educational events that will encourage better health in your community for both youth and adults.

This years returning Healthy South Texas Youth Ambassador is Krystyna Gray who is a sophomore at Zapata High School.

For the 2017-2018 year we will have approximately 10 new Youth Ambassadors. Incoming freshmen Healthy South Texas Youth Ambassadors are: Josceline Morales, Joseph Moore, Mariana Robles, and Jesse Alvarado. Sophomore Youth Ambassadors are: Cesar Garcia Jr, Hannah Renee Gonzalez, Ana Toscano, and Krystyna Gray. Our Senior Youth Ambassadors for this year are: Mariana I. Martinez, Alexi Luera, and Joselyn L. Garcia.

The Healthy South Texas Youth Ambassadors are looking for a great year as the options of opportunities are endless. A few things the Youth Ambassadors will be working on are:

* Coordinating school Walk Across Texas programs and provide assistance with kickoff and celebration events

* Introduce Learn, Grow, Eat, & GO! to elementary schools in the community.

* Serve as a health and nutrition advocate by speaking to groups, participating in health fairs, or volunteering with County Extension agent programs

* Demonstrate the smoothie bike during school assemblies, health fairs, or community events

* Be a disease detective and determine the most critical health needs in the community.
